New forum???

Listen, I get emails all the time from people who say they can't register or log-in to the forum, and I have no ability to help them. I have been hoping this would get better without my doing anything (since there is nothing I can do).

Because of the registration problems, the forum has been reduced to a very small pond with very few fish. If people continue to not be able to register or log-in, they will stop coming here, and we will lose their input permanently.

If there is someone out there who knows how and would like to set up a brand new forum, just like this one, but using a more reliable platform, we could start out fresh and put a link back to this one for anyone interested.

Your right Steve,

I will talk to some of my computer nerd buddies and see what is the best way to go.

I will let you know what they say.

For me, the problems subsided a month or so ago, and I'm using the much maligned Vista.

i think this is a good idea- i know nothing about computers but my hometown has one powered by "vbulletin" - version 3.7.2. it has lots of good features and looks like it would work similar to this forum, but with some extra bells and whistles.

I was thinking the same thing. Start up a new forum and keep a link to this one (for reference purposes).
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about starting web forums. :(

I've been missing since late April and wanted to find out if the forum was working for me. It seems to be fine so a new forum would be an optional thing, not a necessity. My avitar does seem to be missing.

I think what Steve wants to know is who among us is willing to start the new forum.

Here is a site which permits anyone to start a forum free. I know several individuals who have strarted a forum this way. Perhaps one of us would like to try it:

There have been some very good posts on this site. Hopefully, the loss of the information could be avoided by further work to repair this site. Maybe John will comment about what is needed to repair the forum and/or where the problems are.

If this site is beyond repair, then I may be able to offer the hosting because I have already purchased services from the following:

http://www.echristianwebhosting.com

They appear to have a "point & click" solution to installing a forum where the choices are either of the following, using mysql as the underlying database.

SMF www.simplemachines.org , New Installation (1.1.5)
PHPBB www.phpbb.com , New Installation (3.0.1)

I haven't tried setting up either before, and I have no idea which one might be better.
