Its too bad that he couldn't behave.

However, could we address his last post here?

For instance, why do the 2 calls of God as he describes them support Calvinism?
It seems that a non-Calvinist would also agree that there is an outward and an inward call.

Anyone want to take a shot?

Dave

off topic

Post by __id_1887 » Sat Sep 29, 2007 10:45 pm

This is off topic, but I thought I would point something out. This folder is second from the top of the list (just under announcements) and a folder like Testimonies of God's greatness is on the bottom.

Interesting based on the comments I've read about it not being a very important subject.

Abundant joy in Christ,

Haas

I've noticed that too, Bighassdog.

And there aren't very many threads and posts in the Testimony to God's greatness folder.

I am going to do my best to change that. I have just finished with an internet college class and should have some more time on my hands.

I've never considered that where a board is located (I guess what you're calling a "folder") has anything to do with its importance. It looks like they are arranged almost-alphabetically (maybe they once were and others got added later?)...I don't know.

The internet (and this forum) is used for different stuff: "social networking" would kind of be what the Testimonies board is for. This board is, obviously, for particular theological topics.

I post on the web mainly to study...and am not real big on the social networking thing. I'm an introvert (an INTP: Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceptive personality, by Jung)...and have always tended to have a close, but relatively small, circle of friends.

If I posted the many testimonies of God's greatness here on the forum (they would be so numerable)! Also, I have a need to continually be studying...so I can have God and His Word on my mind all the time!

Btw, I've asked for prayer here on the forum too (Thanks again, Michelle). So I'm not merely a theological Thinking type (but I do enjoy studying)!
Anyways, gtsy & wb, Haas :)
I might be over on the Greatness board soon myself.

The arrangement is entirely alphabetical, until you get to the folders dealing with sections of the Bible (e.g. Pentateuch, Old Testament Historical Books, etc...), which are arranged in the order found in the Bible itself. The "general" category was intended as a "catch-all" for whatever didn't belong elsewhere. Later, by user suggestion, the two categories at the bottom were added. There is no order of importance in the way the categories are listed.

Two calls of God?

Post by __id_1095 » Mon Oct 01, 2007 5:31 pm

On the question of two calls of God, I would agree with the Calvinist that there are two (at least) calls but I would disagree as to the nature of those calls. There is a call to salvation (eg. Matt 9:13). This call can be both inward and outward, God working on the inner man. It can also be God arranging circumstanses to bring people into contact with believers or other things that would expose them to the Gospel.

I think the second call is to Christians, those who are already part of His body. (2 Tim 1:4-11, where the context suggests the calling is to service, not to salvation) I think Romans 8:28 falls into this category also. Believers are called according to His purpose to ultimately be comformed to Christ's image. I don't think this is a call to salvation.

On another note, I would appreciate feedback on how others would interpret John 10:26 and 28 that Mark mentioned above. My own thought is that he should have included verse 27, which lies between the two he mentioned:

26 "But you do not believe, because you are not my sheep."
27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;"
28 "And I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no
one shall snatch them out of My hand."

Only those who "hear" Christ's voice can be His sheep. Mark assumed that Christ's sheep were eternally chosen from the beginning. Verse 27 seems to suggest that we have a role in becoming His sheep, ie. responding to His voice. (also John 10:3)

Appreciate feedback.

In Him

Jess

Jess,

I don't have much to add, except to say I agree with your points.
