I just read all of the quotes on this thread. They are most interesting to counterbalance Calvinism.

Does anyone know where I can get more of the writings of Justin Martyr and Tatian? Since these writers appear to be the oldest, closest to the New Testament era, I am particularly interested in reading (the older the better) the founding fathers.

Thanks so much,

Jesus said, "I in them and you in Me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that you have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." John 17:23

Hello selah :)

Aha, JWs, eh?
That would be Athanatius and those guys.
I'll check out your thread, thanks!

You can get to these writings by:
1) copying part of their quote and stick it in a google search or,
2) just google their names or,
3) Early Church Fathers and/or,
4) Early Christian Writings and/or,
5) New Advent: The Fathers of the Church (site is Roman Catholic)

I read Augustine fairly extensively re: his (strange) ideas on Romans 5 from #3 not long ago.

Thanks! :)

Those fathers closest to the Apostles would be the Apostolic Fathers, such as St. Ignatius of Antioch and St. Polycarp (both said to be disciples of the Apostle John), Clement (bishop of Rome) and a few other writings.

Tatian and Justin Martyr came at a slightly later time than these fathers.

Would Steve or an admin be willing to edit Steve's post on p.1 and change "Origin" to "Origen" please?

Thanks! I've made that mistake more than once before!
