Hi Darin,

Interesting that you should post that. I have been keeping an eye on this for a little while now. I think it is very exciting to see an event like this!!

I only wish it was going to be available on-line, or on video, but unfortunately it is not as of now. The line up of speakers are very good,level headed teachers.

I am hoping to be able to go to this, Lord willing. Thanks for posting this here

P.S. Although there is already a lot of "whining and complaining" on many Calvinistic websites how they are going to be "misrepresented".
Which I have noticed "misrepresented" seems to be one of their buzz words. In my opinion (which may be limited in scope), it is pretty hard to "misrepresent" the 5 points that are so clearly laid out to view.

Let's just hope they don't reply with a "How God does not love everybody" (salvifically) tour! Which, of course, would be followed with the "predestined to be Damned Dinner" (no gratuity included) ..........that was tongue and cheek, of course.

I brought this same point up a few months ago...The buzz word amongst Calvinist is "Misrepresent". I am convinced that the only people who "properly" understand Calvinism, are Calvinist.

Hey Bro!

The guy on the youtube link is Guthrie Govan. I believe that he is the best guitar player in all of the known world. He can play anything and everything. He is certainly a "unknown great".

A LifeWay Research study released in November reported about 10 percent of Southern Baptist pastors identified themselves as Calvinists. However, 29 percent of recent SBC seminary graduates espoused Calvinist doctrine.

A few summit participants said the movement toward Calvinism has come on secular university campuses through organizations such as Campus Crusade for Christ and InterVarsity.

"In a broad sense, it's happening on Christian college campuses too, as Calvinism appeals to young people who are wanting a more intellectual approach to Christianity," said Hal Poe, Charles Colson Professor of Faith and Culture at Union University in Jackson. "Southern Baptists neglected serious Christian education from the early 1960s, and that's when all the trouble started. From discipleship training we went to the amorphous youth groups, whose only real good was to keep kids happy until they graduated from high school and graduated from church. Now, you have a generation [of college students] who have come along and want something deeper and they have latched onto Calvinism."

Poe said the "greatest missionary" for Calvinism in the local church is John Piper, a Reformed Baptist theologian, preacher and author who currently serves as pastor for preaching and vision of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. Two of his most popular books are "Desiring God" and "Let the Nations be Glad! The Supremacy of God in Missions."

"He's effective because he's so passionate," Poe said. "He holds huge, stadium-type events that are rip-roaring. There's nobody else doing anything like that so he becomes [Calvinism's] expositor. But John Piper's version of Calvinism is not something John Calvin would espouse, or even that Charles Spurgeon [British reformed Baptist preacher] would espouse.

"Calvinism has an appeal because it tends to have an answer for everything -– you can explain everything [by saying] that God predestined it."

That last quote sure says a lot, doesn't it?

What does John Piper mean when he says that he is a sevenpoint Calvinist?

Double-predestination is the "sixth point."

You know, between Scot McKnight, Roger Olson, N.T. Wright and so many people who are looking past traditions...I think Calvinism's days are numbered. Sure, it will be around for a while, no doubt. But serious thinkers are abandoning it.

I think there might be something like "another reformation" of sorts, to where some, but not all, Reformed folks will be put into their own separate class---as some have put themselves in it already: Read this!
