Lie Told During Communion Devotion!

Post by _Homer » Sun May 11, 2008 11:26 pm

The church we attend observes communion each Lord's day. We have several men who each give the communion devotion. Today was Brother Dave's turn. According to Calvinist Doctrine, he told a lie! Brother Dave said the following:

"There isn't a person here today that Jesus didn't love."

If Calvinism is true, Dave couldn't possibly know this.

It could be true if it's God's non salvific type of love. i.e. common Grace. ;)

So therefore, what exactly? It's a common emotional appeal. As a Berean, do you judge all doctrine according to what "Brother Dave" says?

Cheers,
Bob

Well, what are we as non-calvinists supposed to do when Calvinist's sing the hymn Jesus loves the Little children? Can a Calvinist legitimately sing this hymn without endorsing Arminian Theology? At the least, would they not be inconsistent; at the most, would they not be lieing?

Jesus Loves The Little Children

Jesus calls the children dear,
“Come to me and never fear,
For I love the little children of the world;
I will take you by the hand,
Lead you to the better land,
For I love the little children of the world.”

Refrain

Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
All are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

[Alternate refrain:

Jesus died for all the children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
All are precious in His sight,
Jesus died for all the children of the world.]

Jesus is the Shepherd true,
And He’ll always stand by you,
For He loves the little children of the world;
He’s a Savior great and strong,
And He’ll shield you from the wrong,
For He loves the little children of the world.

Refrain

I am coming, Lord, to Thee,
And Your soldier I will be,
For You love the little children of the world;
And Your cross I’ll always bear,
And for You I’ll do and dare,
For You love the little children of the world.

CALVINIST VERSION:

Jesus calls some children dear,
“Come to me and never fear,
For I love some of the children of the world;
I will take you by the hand,
Lead you to the better land,
For I love some of the children of the world.”

Jesus loves some of the children,
Some of the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
Some are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves some of the children of the world.

Jesus sends most kids away,
To a land where there's no day,
For He hates most of the children of the world;
Of their judgment He will tell;
Then He'll send them straight to hell
For He hates most of the children of the world.

Jesus hates most of the children,
Most of the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
Most are hateful in His sight,
Jesus hates most of the children of the world.

Nice Calvinist version of the hymn Paidion. I really wonder if any Calvinist churches can feel comfortable singing either version of the hymn.
