Job 7:9 and the Resurrection???

Post by _SoaringEagle » Mon Jul 03, 2006 11:04 pm

"...he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. " -- Job 7:9

What does this mean? It appears to be teaching there is no resurrection?

Hi Soaring Eagle,

A couple of points:

1) Job seems to be in a self-pity mode here, so I think that needs to be considered during interpretation. As such, this verse may be recording Job's thoughts/anguish and not necessarily teaching clear eschatology/theology
2) The next verson (v10) says that he'll never return to his house, which could be seen as limiting the thought of v6-9 to meaning something like 'I'm not going to live very long and since dead people are not around to be seen and heard' ... v11 I will not restrain my mouth, etc..

Just some thoughts.

Les

He also said: I know that my Redeemer lives and that he shall stand at at last on the earth. And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God.
Job 19:25,26.
