Is there a difference between John the Baptist’s baptisms and the early baptisms Jesus’ disciples performed?
If not did those baptized have to be re-baptized after Jesus’ ascent?
If so were the early baptisms performed in the name of the “Father, Son & Holy Spirit” while the Son was standing next to the shore?

I think John's baptisms were only a baptism of repentence so i think a believer would have to be rebaptised later.

In reading the accounts of both, I am persuaded that there is no difference between the twoIs there a difference between John the Baptist’s baptisms and the early baptisms Jesus’ disciples performed?
It seems that after that special day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit fell on the disciples, people received the Spirit when they were baptized. There is no evidence that this happened with John's baptism or with that of Jesus' disciples prior to Pentecost. If not did those baptized have to be re-baptized after Jesus’ ascent?
Acts 2:38 ... Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forsaking of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Some disciples from Ephesus who had been baptized with John's baptism, were rebaptized because they had not received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 19:1-5 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. And he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said, "No, we have never even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John’s baptism." And Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus." On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
There was no "baptismal formula" either for the early baptism when Christ was on earth, or for those early baptisms which followed in the first ad second centuries. The book of Acts records many baptisms "in the name of Jesus". This doesn't mean that it was a formula, but that the baptisms were actually done in His name.If so were the early baptisms performed in the name of the “Father, Son & Holy Spirit” while the Son was standing next to the shore?
In some countries with a king, a person could act in the name of the king without necessarily uttering the words, "I do this in the name of the king."
As for "baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit", we find it in only one place in the Bible, in the Great Commission as found in Matthew 28:19. It looks suspiciously like an interpolation, as well as a baptismal formula. There are no extant manuscripts of this portion before the year 300.

Thanks for the input. My take was that there isn't a difference and much like John the Baptist's disciples anyone not at pentacost would need to be re-baptisted.

Re: Early Baptism
I don't know if this helps, but I remember reading somewhere that when folks were baptized in pre-John the Baptist times, they were doing it to indentify with the leader who was performing the Baptisms.Murf wrote:Is there a difference between John the Baptist’s baptisms and the early baptisms Jesus’ disciples performed?
