I don't get a chance to read for pleasure very often , but I am looking to read a good book on discipleship. I know from what I read on this forum that there many here consider discipleship an emphasis in characterizing a true Christian life, and I wholeheartedly agree. That said, are there any books that anyone could recommend to me on this topic, as I would like to chose the best one that I can. Someone recommended me "The Great Omission" by Dallas Willard, even though it is predominantly a collection of his previous works. It is my frontrunner as of right now, since I enjoyed his work "The Spirit of the Disciplines." Other suggestions? Any feedback on this book or author? Thank you and God Bless.

"Following Jesus: Biblical Reflections on Discipleship" by N.T. Wright is a fantastic book.

I've also been blown away recently by the writings of Gerald May, who approaches discipleship from a completely different angle. His books include:
Addiction & Grace - http://www.amazon.com/Addiction-Grace-S ... F8&s=books
The Dark Night of the Soul - http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Night-Soul-P ... F8&s=books
The Awakened Heart - http://www.amazon.com/Awakened-Heart-Op ... F8&s=books

Last night I received a comment on Dallas Willard's book "The Divine Conspiracy" from a recently retired pastor I had loaned the book to. He said over the last 20 years he has read thousands of books and Dallas Willard's is the best of them all. He has purchased two more of Willard's books to read.
I highly recommend the book. One reviewer said Willard belongs on the shelf next to CS Lewis and I agree.

"The Pursuit of God" was an incredible book, thank you TK, it was impossible to put it down. I have recommended it to others who read and enjoyed it.
I also ended up reading "The Cost of Discipleship" by Dietrich Boenhoeffer and was VERY challenged by its directness. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Does anyone have any thoughts on this book?
"The Divine Conspiracy" seems like something I should pick up, thank you Homer, glad to see the good review.
Any others along these lines that I should read?

"The Heavenly Man", Brother Yun with Paul Hattaway.

an excerpt from the blurb: "An inspirational and heroic story of a radical Christian in the house churches of China. This book is like reading a modern-day version of the Book of Acts. ..."
I agree, and very unputdownable. (is that a word?)
