Wow-eee! There needs to be a 'sticky' at the top of this topic labeled 'Must Read' with link to this thread. Thanks for the long hard work Steve, for writing this response, I know it took a lot of time, and I'm sure everyone here REALLY appreciates it very very much.

Absolutely amazing! And I agree with Roblaine, you can bet this response won't be found on Geisler's website. One can only hope that he will read it and ask God for some much needed humility.

'Really good work, Steve! As an ex-dispensationalist myself...I know what you have gone through and why you teach what you do about Eschatology.
Your posts call for a second & third "read"!
Thanx,
Rick

Steve, nice job at answering his points...although I can see how some of your comments will simply be seen as an "attack". :? I hope if he responds, it's about the subject at hand and not a dodge. I'd love to see his response.

On a thread about Gary DeMar's and Ken Gentry's video "Demystifying Revelation," a debate on eschatology between Dr. Geisler and Steve was suggested. Somehow, I feel this exchange is as close as we will get to it, but boy wouldn't that be edifying? At least in person, there would be an emphasis on the actual passages of Scripture rather than a recitation of theology (dispensational theology, i mean). Thank you for your response Steve, it was very thorough and informative.

On a side note, I have seen the debate between Gary DeMar and Thomas Ice and while DeMar clearly won, there are certain things that I wish he wouldn't have let Ice off the hook on...I'm sure Steve would fairly concede preterism's weaker points, while at the same time not allowing an opponent to gloss over the glaring weaknesses in their position.

Steve,

Thanks for writing such a detailed answer to Dr. Giesler. I still have much to learn on this subject, and I wanted to say I appreciated reading your excellent explanation of some aspects of the preterist and amillennial view. I hope Dr. Giesler will respond, for I really look forward to seeing his answer to your latest response.

Pete

I recently went back to the Norman Geisler links mentioned in the opening post of this thread, and found out that Geisler's criticisms of Hank and of me have been removed from his site (I hope it wasn't something I said!). Of course, a great deal of Geisler's remarks are preserved in my quotations of him in my posted responses. However, I would like to have the complete correspondence available. I imagine some of you may have copied his articles while they were still on his site, and may still have them on your hard drive. If so, would you mind emailing them to me, so that I can have them as well? Thanks!

Darin has sent me the articles. So no one else needs to go looking for them now. Thanks, Darin, and anyone else who tried to provide them!

“The reason one can take the plagues of Egypt literally and those in Revelation figuratively is that these are two very different kinds of literature. Exodus is a historical narrative, whereas Revelation is an apocalyptic prophecy. The former genre is expected to use literal language to describe historical events; the latter uses symbolism, which echo significant historical events (like the plagues of Egypt) in order to get across its message.”

Quite a "short" response to Geisler! Anyway, the above quote is one of many that could be responded to that have no basis in Scripture. Steve asserting these two portions of Scripture as different genres does not do away with the problems Preterism has with the book of Revelation, and the genre invocation doesnt make it go away.

One can just as easily and far more plausibly argue that the local plagues, judgments and catastrophes serve as a backdrop for the GLOBAL ones pictured in Revelation. Nowhere in Revelation are we told "Now now boys and girls, this book is a different genre, don't believe what you read!"

I expect to get pummeled for my NY sarcasm, but I'll brave it.
