Art Katz has died

Post by _Paidion » Tue Jul 03, 2007 9:17 pm

Some of you have quoted Art Katz and also Reggie Kelley who lives at the Ben Israel community (where I met my wife).

Yesterday (Monday), I attended Art's funeral at Ben Israel, located near Cass Lake, MN. My wife had gone earlier, and had seen Art shortly before he died. It will be interesting to see what direction the community will take now that he is gone. Quite a few disciples who are Hutterites as well as some who are former Hutterites have been connected to Art. Indeed, one of them was a former pupil of mine in a Hutterite Colony where I taught in 1962-63 and 1963-64.

I don't know who is Art Katz. Does he have a website?

This is very sad news, although I know Art had been suffering greatly over the past months. I had been checking his website for updates on his health and I knew it was very serious. It is ironic, in a way, because much of Art's teaching focuses on suffering and the how spiritual growth occurs through suffering.

I discovered Art's teachings about 3 years ago at http://www.fireonthealtar.com. Then I listened to many of his sermons, all available at http://www.sermonindex.net. Art never pulls any punches. But he says what needs to be said. Some of the ones that influenced me the most:

And They Crucified Him
Be Ye Perfect
One Thing You Lack
Julius Caesar vs Jesus Christ- a Study of Two Deaths

If you have never listened to Art, I would encourage you to do so.

Paidion, I am glad you were able to attend the funeral. Art is in glory, and for that I am happy.

And They Crucified Him
This is one of the heaviest sermons I've ever heard. I highly recommend it.

It is indeed sad that this man has died, but praise God! He is with Jesus now. That's reason for rejoicing. I'm sure Art is!
