Is there any book that challenges Partial Preterism?

Post by _AARONDISNEY » Mon Jul 16, 2007 3:43 pm

I know this is probably not the best place to ask this, considering most of you are Partial Preterists...but do any of you know of any books that take their main aim at opposing the views of Preterist and Partial Preterists? A book that takes the best arguments for these views and breaks down the reasons not to believe this way?

I see plenty of books that are written to oppose the conventional theories of the end times, but I have a hard time finding a rebuttal book. Most of the books authored by Pre-Trib Millennialists don't go into defending their positions against opposers very deeply -

I have heard things that make sense and don't make sense on both sides of the many arguments contained in this huge subject. I would just like to hear something from someone opposed to P.P. explain their views against it clearly.
Thanks guys.

Check the book written by Norman Geisler. The title of the book is "Systematic Theology, Vol. 4: Church/Last Things "
Maybe they have it in the public library.

Thanks Paulespino. I'll look into it. Does he present the opposing views and explain his position with relation to them?

Hi Aaron,

I would recommend Steve's book (Revelation: Four Views), if you don't have it. In that you would have the best biblical case for each view, so you can weigh the evidence yourself.

God bless,

The problem with that is that although Steve does a better job at hiding his bias than some, his biases still come through.
I'd like a book written by a premil defending his own position.

Have you read his book?

If you haven't, I can assure you, that his biases do not come through.

I've read it, and I agree that Steve's biases do not come through.

However, AaronDisney wants a book which essentially challenges the views of Preterism and Partial-Preterism. That is not the essential message of Steve's book. It is to portray 4 different views of Revelation, and the interpretation of each, and 3 different views of the Millenium.

My memory is poor but as far as I can remember he does but only sometimes. Don't buy the book because the main purpose of his book is to present his views and he will only attack other views when he wants to.

That's why I think it would be better than a polemic. He could see the different views and judge for himself. Maybe that's just the way I would want to learn it.

But it does deal only with Revelation. It doesn't really touch on the Olivet Discourse and points of view on Old Testament prophecy.

You might look at some literature by such teachers as Vernon McGee, Les Feldick, or look at Unger's Bible Dictionary for various topics relating to your request. I have a series of books by McGee and he essentially weaves that theological mindset throughout his reading of each book of the Bible. I find it interesting and I liked to hear his radio broadcasts. For my part, I think it takes some creative exegesis to see what he saw in scripture and I would tend toward the partial preterist viewpoint.

You might give Steve's book another read. I didn't get the sense that he was advocating the Preterist position over the others. In fact, I might as easily argue that he advocated the Historicist or Spiritual viewpoint in the way that he presented it. The Futurist position, whether explained in his book or in the footnotes of a Bible written by the strong dispensationalists, seems to be dependent on applying an everchanging set of exegetical rules to get the meaning of each passage of scripture. However, I saw Feldick's tv show a month or two ago and he did comment that he disagreed with the preterists and gave a coherent explanation for the specific point he was discussing. Maybe you could check out some of his literature. He does teach verse by verse and it doesn't appear that he teaches from the latest newspaper headline.

Happy studying, Aaron,
