It is going to be awesome this weekend. And yes, Derek and his wife Alicia will be here.Perry wrote:Amazon just came thru and the book arrived today.
As it turns out, I'm about to kick off a short vacation by going down to Georgia and meeting Steve, and Brody, and, hopefully, Derek. This book should make great reading for this trip.

Hey guys,
Been reading this book and, quite honestly, didn't find it quite as moving as you guys seem to. Frankly, I just didn't see anything that new in it. (Caveat... I'm not saying I live this way perfectly... who does? But conceptually it was nothing new.)
Then I hit chapter 6.
It never occured to me that those who "passed by on the other side" thought that they were doing so in obedience. That was a bit of an eye opener for me, and set me on a whole line of thought (not a particular original one mind) about how often we use our own preconceptions about God's will to justify ourselves. Or how doctrinal ignorance can lead us away from the loving response.
I confess that I personally need to look for ways to expand the graceful and loving response in my life.
Good stuff. I look forward reading more of this book, and hope to hear more of your responses to it.

Two months! I've been trying to finish this book for two months...and not having much success. I will read a chapter, but I'm not compelled to keep on reading for some reason. I think I agree with Perry:
Then I hit chapter 26.
It's about "wilderness" experiences when your faith is tested over a long haul. I think I'm in one of those times right now, and this chapter came at the exact right time. Earlier in the day I chanced upon a sermon about the same thing. It was a live broadcast from a church that I would normally not listen to, but left my radio on anyway. How bizarre, huh?
I was wondering who this book was written for anyway?Been reading this book and, quite honestly, didn't find it quite as moving as you guys seem to. I don't think so. The Spirit knows how to bring meat in due season. I'll pray that He continues to do so for you.MichelleM wrote:How bizarre, huh?
I haven't made it as far along in the book as you. I've been reading about a chapter a night before going to sleep. The chapters are short, and it's kind of a devotional style reading that I'm doing to honor the commitment to the book. I think the insights are good, and it's a nice note to end the day on. (I confess I haven't read any in about 3 days, however). So far it was chatper 6 that inspired comment on my part. I haven't made it to chapter 26 yet. You've given me something to look forward to.

Well, I've gotten a job...for a month now....
The last time I read The Jesus Creed was, lemme see here (???)....
I think it was about a week before I got this job.
I got all the way up to chapter 4!
I'm like that on theological books: Go real, real, slow and digest every sentence & word...this is how I've been reading The Jesus Creed, anyway.
I'm finally getting a routine back, being back to work & everything (Praise the Lord for: I got a job)! It's pretty demanding work, physically (and at my age) but I think this weekend, or rather I hope this weekend, I'll be relaxed & rested enuf to sit down & read some more....
That is, if, after reviewing what I've read -- I get to it! lol
God bless y'all
