losing your life for Christ
losing your life for Christ
"He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it" (Matthew 10:39).
How do you apply this scripture in your everyday living when you are trying to juggle where to go next, Here are a few examples:
You are trying to set up a new business. You are going through a new
phase of your life and you just are not sure what to chose , Marriage? Missionary work? Going back to secular school? And the list could go on.
I aleady feel so lost with each new decision I make right now, even though I continue to lift it up in prayer, How do I know I am not just self "seeking" vs following Gods path in my life? Losing myself for "him" ?
Any and all responses to these questions would be greatly appreciated . Thanks Glow

IN MY OPINION people sometimes sweat too much over specifics, worrying if they are making the choice God wants them to make. I was very influenced by a sermon from John MaCarther on the topic of discovering God's will for your life. He said we KNOW that it is God's will for us to be saved, sanctified, serving, suffering (and probably a couple other S's). And then he concluded by saying something to this affect...."but you might say, 'pastor john, you haven't told me what girl to marry, what job to take, what car to buy'.....well I'm telling you that if you are saved, sanctified, etc you can pick whatever you want b/c your desires will be Godly desires"
When I went to college a lot of students were telling me how they agonized over which school to choose. That's fine I guess. But I'll tell ya, I just went to the college of my denominational affiliation that offered what I wanted and was the cheapest. I think God has given us a brain to use. You are talking about some pretty big issues (marriage, career), but consider the possibility that God would be pleased with various choses that you make so long as you continue to dedicate your life to Him. If He has a specific call for your life, I trust He will make it known. For now, just look for open doors and use your wisdom.

Thankyou so much for your "breath of fresh air reply"
I tend to get inside my head alot comparing whether I am making the right choices vs Gods choices in my life. I am new at alot of this right now even though I am in my early 50s because I am a widow.
After a long stretch of doing something one way and then being thrust into "new" world it can get very confusing to say the least.
Thankyou for encouraging me to "get simple" Glow

Glow,
I heard someone say one time," Replace self condemnation with discernment."
Pray for discernment.
Give NO thought for tomorrow sufficient is the evil in the day thereof.
Trust the LORD with ALL you heart and do not lean on your understanding
In all your ways acknolwledge HIM and HE will direct your path.
Peace to you.

Thankyou friend.
Your words ring clear with me. The verse you quoted I have hung onto dearly as one of my favorites.
Also thank you for reminding me again Of it. God bless you this day and may the Lord keep you from harm also. Glow

Matthew 10:39 "He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it".
You have to read a couple of verses before that. The meaning is to love Jesus more than anything. If you love your own life more than Jesus, then you are not worthy of Him therefore going to hell. If you love Jesus more than anything, then you will obey Him and find everlasting life in heaven.
Has nothing to do with worrying about making specific decisions in life. It only has to do with one all important decision, read Deuteronomy 30:19 "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live".
May you be a hearer and doer of The Word.

Dear Eppsjason.
I am sorry I might have given the wrong impression by only putting up this one scripture here . I am well aware that I need to put Christ above all else in my life. That is one of the reasons why the scripture I did post is so important to me. I love the Lord dearly. He has loved me all my life (even though not worthy thats for sure)and walked side by side with me through thick and thin (which there has been plenty)He first honestly loved me and by his wonderful example and strength I am also learning to truly love him and others . I am only able to accomplish the positive I do because of Him in my life.
Thank you for your concern and guidance. As far as one can know I have peace through scripture and my relationship with him I am not going to hell. Peace to you Glow

Make sure you know that the scripture means that you do not sin anymore. Sin no more at all. It means you are obedient to God's will. It means you've been filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. It means you live holy everyday. It means once you get the Holy Ghost, you let the Spirit lead you. The Spirit cuts out the confusion.
May you be a hearer and doer of The Word.

I don't understand, although I believe in speaking in tounges Paul states "Do all speak in tounges". Clearly not everyone speaks in tounges. If everyone spoke in tounges as initial evidence of the Holy Spirit, then Paul would be making a bad argument, since all would have spoken in tounges.eppsjason wrote:It means you've been filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
Also notice Paul's conversion in Acts, it doesn't say he spoke with tounges as initial evidence. Paul also said that tounges are a sign to unbelievers. A very important sign in the early Church, showing God's grace has come to the Gentiles and Jewish believers. But what would it prove to a Church congregation today? Unless they are unbelievers?
Just wondering.
