What did Jesus mean ...

Looking for some thoughts on Mark 10:30. Jesus said that those who have left home and family for the gospel will receive (home and family - with persections) "a hundredfold now in this time."

Is hundredfold a hyperbole?

What is "in this time?" Jesus seems to set it apart from "the age to come."

Is "the age to come" the Church age? Or is He speaking of after the resurrection?

If "in this time" Jesus refers to our present life, than what reward does He speak of that will come hundredfold?

Hi Dane, Some thoughts,

A hundredfold may be hyperbole, though I'm thinking of Acts 4:32, where a person could have left everything to follow Jesus and received an hundredfold. And look at Pauls life, the lands he took (received), and the large Christian families he set up, and was sometimes succored by, Gal. 4:14. So, "this time", I think is the church age.

And the tag line to our Lords' sentence:" and in the age to come eternal life" the icing on the cake, heaven on earth, after the resurrection.

What reward in this lifetime?.....The Christian family....can I get you anything brother?

So you're thinking that
the families we leave for the gospel
are given back in the form
of new Christian brothers and sisters?

And the homes we leave
are replaced by the abodes
thrown open to us by our
new families in Christ?

Bud, this is also how I understand Jesus' words. I have a pretty big "normal" family but a much larger Christian family. If my natural family tossed me out on my ear, I'd be thrown into the arms of hundreds of caring Christian brothers and sisters. And yes... the age to come is eternal life.
