Hello from Utah

Post by Sarah » Tue Apr 07, 2009 3:27 pm

Hey, gang--

I'm new, and thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm a wife of 10 years (next week) and mother of 6. My dh and I moved to the Salt Lake City area for his job a bit over 4 years ago. We're originally from the Portland, Oregon area. We've come to love this area, though, especially because of our church. http://www.lifelinecommunity.com/

I was raised in a believing home and came to Christ young. After high school I studied under Steve and the other teachers/staff at GCS 91-92. (Hi, Steve! :) ) Since then I've kept pretty busy, working and then after marrying my dh, bringing up our kids.

Looking forward to joining the conversation. :)

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the forum! I enjoyed visiting the http://www.lifelinecommunity.com/ website that you posted. Maybe I can spend more time there sometime and read the entire site. It looks like a "light unto your path."

I'm glad you liked my church's website, SueAnn. :) If you're interested, there's a link on the bottom to listen to sermons. My pastor just finished preaching through The Sermon on the Mount, and I'd highly recommend a listen. I think the series began in September...not certain, it might have been October. In any case, well worth listening. I've been going through it again while I do the dishes (computer's in the kitchen), and it's even better the second time through. ;) And now I'm starting my own study on Matthew 5-7, starting with Dallas Willard's The Divine Conspiracy and Stott's book.

...sorry, I think I did something wrong with the quote button. :|
karenprtlnd wrote:Hi Sarah. I'm LDS(BIC), and though my little sister got really really into scrapbooking, she prefers to meet at New Hope Christian fellowship on sunday with her daughter. Her husband seems a warm and friendly athiest, but niether one really read the Bible much, so there are few topics that we have in common in regard to "church" or scriptures.

It's really as odd feeling that you are in my LDS centered SLC, UT as you post, though not LDS. It was so funny when you mentioned "scrapbooking" that I wondered if everyone here knows just how LDS scrapbooking and card making can get. It almost seems that if you are into scrapbooking you certainly must be LDS. But alas....... Sarah is found not to be LDS though lives in SLC,UT and has done scrapbooking.
Sarah,

I'm going to respond to some things Karen said so I quoted her above.

When I used to go to a charismatic denomination, we (the women ;) )scrapbooked once a month. But now, I never get over in that "neck of the woods" and my scrapbooking project goes unattended. I'm supposed to be working on the last visit I made to UT to see my LDS grandchildren. The scrapbook is for my nine year old grandson, to help him remember the things we did while I was there. We went to the dinasaur museum in Lehi (I believe that is where it is) and to a big outdoor gear store in the same town....what is the name of it? It starts with a "C" I think. It's an amazing store! Outdoors in the mountains of UT, we saw deer and elk and went to a park and went to SLC too. All the pics of that visit are (not electronic but old fashioned 35 MM) destined for his book...I wish the forum scrapbookers could get together sometime

I didn't actually see your post where you mentioned scrapbooking, but since Karen's was the last post, I read hers and since she wrote AS IF you wrote about it, I'm going to trust that you did, and send....

You know what I think is cool about you coming into the forum? The timing. Since my LDS son and family live in UT, and since I've been on the forum, I've wondered who in UT can I relate to? You see, some of the Christians that I currently fellowship with in Oregon once attended the GCS in McMinnville so since you said that you attended the entire school? anyway, I thought, how cool is this? that you should come at the time you did! Thank you. It is really nice to meet you--and we may even know some of the same people (kindof like facebook, isn't it? ) ---without the faces--- you know, you know some people, I know the same people, but you and I don't know each other...well, I'll ask my friends if they know a lady named Sarah from SLC!

Thanks for the mention of the Sermon on the Mount. It is a great stretch of scripture. Some senior citizens and myself (I'm not quite THAT old  ) are starting the book of Matt next Monday at 10:30 a.m. We went through the book last year and they want to go through it again! I have not read either book you mention so thanks for the heads up and your preacher's sermon might give me deeper thought to bring to the study next week and during the weeks thereafter. Okay, I too have to do dishes---even right now---but I can take my laptop and listen to your pastor. :D

Glad your with us on the forum,
SueAnn*

Hi Sarah, I meant to get back to you before now. I listened to the Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount. Had a few technical difficulties with the internet signal pausing too often, too long, but what I could track was very intriguing. The main thing, according to your pastor, the Beatitudes are the underlying teaching for every other teaching related to Christian action and response in life....wow, I just got an idea! Thanks so much, Sarah, anything else on this, I'm interested because I have to prepare/present by next Thursday "Living as a Christian; How Christians should treat people." wow, I'm going to re-read the Sermon on the Mount!
But I do have a question. Why isn't there another archived sermon on the subject. All that is there is the intro.
Thanks again,
:D
