Steve's Lectures
Re: Steve's Lectures
I'm sorry if I'm wrong on the details of how snipmp3 works. I have fairly slow internet myself, so I feel the pain of those who have even slower than myself. Here are the results of an informal speed test I just conducted using snipmp3:
I downloaded this mp3 from Biblegate's channel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGyp2qoGkVA) using snipmp3. The payload size for the video data was 85.17 mb, the resulting mp3 file that I received was 17.2 mb. It took 45 min. on my 320 kbit/s connection to download.
vid size 85.17 mb = 1.89 mb/min (264 Kbit/s)
mp3 size 17.2 mb = 0.38 mb/min (53 Kbit/s)
I then downloaded a comparably sized file from here (http://media.theos.org/Steve%20Gregg/GC ... Gen.11.MP3). It took 9.5 min. to download.
mp3 size 18.5 mb = 1.95 mb/min (273 Kbit/s)
Assuming that the conversion is taking place on the snipmp3 server and then the mp3 data is being sent on my internet pipe, there is a huge disparity in speed (53 vs. 273 Kbit/s).
Assuming that the video data is being sent on my internet pipe and the Java applet on my machine is converting on the fly and the resulting data stream is output to my hard drive as an mp3 file, then we have an almost exact match (264 vs. 273 Kbit/s).
So, regardless of how the data is truly being handled, the result is the same for someone with a slow internet connection: a very long download. That is why it is my hope that we can get these hosted either here or at thenarrowpath already in mp3 format as a service to those who would find it prohibitive to use snipmp3. I have already done the work of converting, organizing, and giving ID3 tags, and I would be willing to mail these to whoever has a website and would care to host them. Unless of course they have a much faster internet connection than myself (which is certainly the case), and would rather just do it themselves.

Re: Steve's Lectures
To my knowledge, the 2010 NGCS lectures (Module I) were not recorded on video. If I’m mistaken, someone will correct me. The books covered in that Module were Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers Deuteronomy, Job, and The Gospel of Mark.
During the 2011 NGCS (Module II), all of lectures were recorded on video. They are all available for viewing on YouTube. The Judges series is also available on Vimeo. Here is a list of those books and links to the online playlists.

(Because of the correlation between the books of Kings and of Chronicles, the books of Chronicles were covered in conjunction with the lectures on the books of Kings.)
The books covered during the 2012 NGCS (Module III) were: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and Revelation. These lectures also were recorded on video. So far, only a few of the Revelation lectures are uploaded YouTube & Vimeo. Here are the links to those playlists:

Re: Steve's Lectures
I don't know why it went so slow for you, except maybe the server was very busy. For me it went about 50-60 KB/sec, or around 500 kbit/sec, which is a fraction of my bandwidth. It was definitely sending me an MP3 file, not a video. I was watching the speed of the wireless interface, and it was the same as reported by the browser's download manager, so it couldn't have been sending a video and extracting the MP3 locally.KyleB wrote:mp3 size 17.2 mb = 0.38 mb/min (53 Kbit/s)
But whatever works for you. I'm just making a suggestion for an easy way for folks to get MP3's while they're not available somewhere for direct download. Of course it's better to download them directly when possible.
Re: Steve's Lectures
Thanks for all the information guys.

Re: Steve's Lectures
Maybe BibleGate or someone else can answer this. Any idea when Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel will be posted on video?
Just curious.

Re: Steve's Lectures
Production of Steve's Gregg's 2012 Revelation lectures (playable on DVD player) has begun. I will update you as the DVD's become available.
Right now, Revelation ~ Chapter One is available. You can let me know via Private Message (PM) if you would like a copy.
Production of Isaiah, Jeremiah, & Daniel will commence after Revelation is competed.

Re: Steve's Lectures
Does anyone have the student notes from the Revelation lectures?
Re: Steve's Lectures
This is probably from the original GCS revelation lectures, but relevant nonetheless:

Re: Steve's Lectures
I am pretty sure these are the notes that Chris Crombie ("Christopher" here) took while listening to the lectures. This is probably from the original GCS revelation lectures, but relevant nonetheless:

I did not hand out lecture notes on Revelation. other than the several pages of introductory notes. Those notes follow the same information (essentially) as that in the introduction of my book.
For my verse-by-verse lectures for various books (including Revelation), I usually don't have printed notes, other than for the introductions. The commentary through the books is largely extemporary, assisted by notes I have written in my Bible margins. Therefore, I really don't have notes through the books that I can supply. Chris' notes are great, though.
