Genesis 9 unconditional promise?

Steve,

I have been listening to your Genesis studies and I have heard you mention that no where in the Bible does God make an unconditional promise or covenant. How do you then see the promise made in Genesis chapter 9 starting in verse 9? Unfortunately that was the only study that was missing in the Genesis series so I wasn't able to hear you teach on that particular section.

You know Steve, it would be nice if you would re-record that missing tape. (hint, hint)

Steve talks about this in other places. You might want to download from the "Topical Lectures" the series called "What are me to make of Israel?"

You don't happen to remember which one of the studies in that series it was that Steve talks about that do you? I do plan on listening to that series and I know Steve is out of town but if he happens to read this post and has time to respond to my original question I would appreciate it.

Part 2, you can skip to the 6 minute mark were he starts to talk about the Abrahamic covenant.

Great, thanks a lot Sean!

...I have been listening to that study and although it's interesting it seems like Steve starts with the covenant made to Abram in Genesis 12 and proceeds from there to the other three made in the OT. I'll have to keep listening to see if he makes a side reverence back to the promise he made to Noah in Genesis 9 which is the covenant still in question for me.

I've never heard Steve say that there were no unconditional covenants in the OT, only that there were none to the nation of Israel that were not either fulfilled in Christ, or conditional upon their obedience. I could be wrong and I'll let Steve answer that.

I see the Noahic covenant as being unconditional and given to the whole human race since it was given essentially to the progenitors of whole human race at the time (Noah and his sons). God simply said He wouldn't destroy the earth again by flood. Since we still see rainbows today, I assume this covenant is still in effect.

Just my thoughts.

I would agree with christopher, the Noahic covenant seems to be one that is promised to last as long as the earth.

I agree as well and maybe, as Chris pointed out, I just misunderstood what Steve was saying.

Oops! I missed that, thought you were talking about hte Abrahamic covenant. I didn't read carefully enough.
